D CEO Magazine Profiles Family Lawyer Mike McCurley
McCurley Orsinger McCurley Nelson & Downing lauded as '24/7 law firm' run 'like a corporation'
DALLAS - Nationally recognized Family Law attorney Mike McCurley and the firm he founded, McCurley Orsinger McCurley Nelson & Downing, L.L.P., are the subject of a feature story in the March/April issue of D CEO magazine that focuses on Mr. McCurley's successful inspiration to run his firm "like a corporation."
In the article "The Divorce CEO," the magazine details Mr. McCurley's executive-style leadership at one of the country's best-known matrimonial law boutiques.
The 17 lawyers at McCurley Orsinger employ "a team approach where all members enjoy a working familiarity with each case, embracing an interactive structure in which all lawyers ... are able to communicate at any given moment about a case," the article says.
Forensic psychotherapist Michael Bickers, who has worked on several cases with Mr. McCurley and his colleagues, told D CEO that he "has not observed this boardroom-like leadership structure in other shops."
"It's hardly surprising, he says, that McCurley's firm has served as a ‘hell of a training program' from which ‘powerhouse' lawyers have emerged to start firms of their own, like corporate subsidiaries being spun off into separate companies," the article continues.
Despite the firm's representation of high-profile and wealthy clients, McCurley Orsinger also handles a significant amount of pro bono legal work, most notably Mary Jo McCurley's representation of several children who were removed from the polygamist "Yearning for Zion" compound in 2008.
"Though McCurley estimates that the firm's time and effort in that litigation would have cost around $1 million, he chalks up the pro bono legal work as ‘part of our belief in giving back to our profession, our community, and society,'" the magazine reports.
With offices in Dallas and San Antonio, McCurley Orsinger McCurley Nelson & Downing, L.L.P., is one of the largest firms in Texas specializing solely in Family Law. Each of the firm's partners is a member of the Texas Academy of Family Law Specialists and is Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
