Contact: Michelle Steckel October 23, 2002 Mike McCurley Named the Best Family Law Attorney in Texas (Dallas) --- Texas Lawyer newspaper, the state's only independent newspaper dedicated to Texas law and attorneys, has named Mike McCurley it's "Go-To" family law attorney in the state of Texas. McCurley is the named managing partner of Dallas' McCurley Orsinger McCurley Nelson & Downing L.L.P.. The Oct. 15 publication chose the top five lawyers in 27 practice areas from the pool of Texas' 65,000 lawyers. McCurley joins an even more exclusive group by being named the best of the five "Go-To" family law practitioners identified by Texas Lawyer. The newspaper compiled its list by taking nominations, conducting its own research and interviewing hundreds of lawyers across the state about whom they would want to represent them. "I am truly honored to have been selected to this list," say Mr. McCurley. "It means more to me that the selection was made after of survey of my peers and not based on popularity or advertising dollars. That's the greatest professional compliment that I can imagine." McCurley, a founding member of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the former president of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, said it took going through his own divorce 30 years ago to understand the need for quality divorce lawyers. Since then, the graduate of the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, has gone on to represent a wide range of high-profile clients including professional athletes, tycoons, corporate officers and their spouses. Mr. McCurley says that assumptions about the family, made by both society and the law, have changed significantly in the past thirty years, since McCurley began practicing family law. He says that he understands how divorce affects individuals, and prides himself on protecting his clients' legal and emotional needs. As he says in the Texas Lawyer profile, "You have to help that client get through the process. If you don't, you may win the battle and lose the war."
